12" Wooly Pressing Bar
$29.99  $23.99

We know wool ironing mats help get our fabrics flat when ironing, but TLC now has in the Wooly Pressing Bar! This tool helps get that crisp ironing to your seams when you are pressing them open. The magic of the wool will help those seams stay flat and open as you continue sewing your pieces.

Frame Caddy
$75.00  $60.00

Have a longarm? Don’t have a great place to keep your bobbins, scissors, rulers, and other tools for when you’re at your machine? We have a new tool for you! This longarm caddy is made by a local artisan, and it can help hold those bits and bobs we need for our projects, without taking up more floor space. It rests right across the rolling bars of your frame and easily moves out of the way as you work. Quit poking yourself with your scissors on a key ring, searching for your bobbins that keep getting left elsewhere, or having your templates piling up on the back of your frame. Keep everything handy there beside you as you quilt!

Tips from the Quilter's Corner

Picking Your Batting

My longarmer has a bunch of different battings! Which do I choose?

Besides talking about price, different battings bring different qualities to your finished quilt. 100% cotton will shrink some when washed, adding a bit of a pucker to a quilt, and that classic look/feel we’ve come to know and love. Wool and polyester are often a bit warmer and puffier than cotton. Wool will still shrink and pucker like cotton, but it needs to be more densely quilted. Whereas polyester will not shrink, can be quilted less densely, and it will have a longer life in general. Poly/cotton blend battings give you the best of both worlds when it comes to choosing between cotton or poly, and it’s a great option when a quilter is on a budget.

If you want to talk about competition quilts, you may be considering layering two different battings to get the puff of the wool or poly at the top, but then cotton on the bottom to help firm it up on the bottom. There are also some different eco friendly battings out there too.

Finally, if you’re quilting your piece your self, you may want to consider how heavy or light the batting is to make sure it isn’t tiring you, or your machine out.

Here is a video you can check out about different battings, and there are many more out there too!
